Today was one of these: "Just ten steps from the truck" or "....had to spend one hour" days.
As most fields were planted now i went with wifey to a flea market in town. We had lots of fun, i found a rare book i needed, she got some girls stuff... Almost dinner time i had to look at a field freshly plowed. Grabbed the detector and the dog and off i was.
The Deus was just down to the soil i got a foil sounding signal close to the surface. 1788 1/2 Thaler, nice big silver! Next were some signals here and there most trash, then another holed coin, a hammered and a celtic bracelet frag. That absolutely made my day. Date 450 to 200B.C. :headbang: And i was on the field just 20 minutes! But these were the only 20 minutes, the farmer and his wife stopped by with their bicycles. We chatted some time and i called it a day.

Very cool, out of curiosity, what was the rare book you found?

I only ask because I collect old books, folio's, manuscripts and maps.

Thanks! German Luftwaffe (Air Force) magazine year 1941 printed in book form. My father collected these and 1941 was missing. I try to complete his collection.

Thats cool; there is a book shop on Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße 45, in Kaiserslautern; it is a pure gem. Back in the late 90's a young man opened it, shortly after he died of cancer and his mother and some friends still keep the shop open. The mother owns the entire building and has a hair dresser right next door, so if you google it the only thing that shows up is the hair dresser. The shop is still there though.

I picked it clean back in 2006 of the works I collect, but have been in there as recently as last August.

The place is great, prices are still in DM when everything was priced back in the 90's and all they do is cut the price in half and then knock off 25% from that price.

I had stumbled on to it one day long ago and just popped in and asked if they had an Kant. I got tons of stuff out of there. I even got a Band 3 from Abraham Sancta Clara "Judas der Erzschelm". I already had 2 of these but without a cover and had never even heard of someone owning one with a cover. This one had the cover and all 86 woodcuts and 27 folio's. Pretty good for the late 1600's. I sent it straight away for restoration in the States, and was made some crazy offers, but I collect paper, not sell.

If your ever in that city it may be worth having a look; I can not really remember anything as young as your purchase, but I do not collect those sort of works. So it is very possible to walk right by such works when you collect other works.

Germany is a gold mine for old books.

Well just thought I would let you know where the shop is just in case your still looking.

Mfg,

That's one helluva hour hunt you had. Congrats on a great set of finds and locating such a productive area.

Lu, I think you should try another row or two. All of that from one row would make me want to do them all. And I see another silver. Good luck.
