I believe there is a little cut out area inside the coil, it should pinpoint close to there. (I've not used the stock coil in a bit, so trying to picture it in my head)

When it is the strongest it is usually just in front of the notch out the guy above mentioned. So just forward of dead center in the opening. Don't forget to detune when pinpointing to get best results.

For shallow targets you can also find your left to right. Draw back until the target drops off and then push forward slowly until it starts to pick up again and it's center in the gap between the outside and inside circle part of the coil.

Toss a coin on the ground and hit the pinpoint button. You will know exactly where it pinpoints. Not all coils are exactly the same.
