I started a new job and with it I work with a warehouse in Nucla Colorado. On Monday this week I headed out of the front range and went to Montrose. Along the way I took a side road going down the upper Arkansas River. I made my way over Cottonwood pass and saw the recent snowfall that fell the night before. Staying in Montrose for the night I made a quick trip to Ouray before sun up and then headed over the San Juan mountains and down the western flowing waters of the San Miguel River. These pics are some of what I saw headed west and then coming back east which I did in a matter of one night out making it home at 9:45 last night.

That newly blacktop, straightened and graded Cottonwood pass really shortened the drive and increased fuel consumption. It's slow going, but you could if you wanted hit speeds to 60 in places you could only handle 20 in the past before with all the rocks and washboards it once had. I think most people avoid it, because it's still not well known yet of its improvements. Its a wonderful piece of highway construction. They eliminated a bunch of roadside pull off, which I think will keep folks moving along and made a few really nice but less places to park multiple vehicles. Best of all the white dust that was all kicked up at one time and would cover the vegetation along the roadside to the point of dying has been eliminated. No telling how many times I traveled up there from when I lived in BV. I use to take a bow-saw and drive up in my 58' Ford pickup and get a level load of bed length fire wood in a matter of hours just from all the dead-fall just off the side of the road. Made no noise I did. Back then hardly anyone would come up there in the late fall.

I'll have to get over there soon. What a great place to live. My wife and I have always loved that area. Especially the north party of that valley. I bet you would like to have that truck back!
