Cellar hole hunt- 1700's copper and nice buckles

I had a little over an hour to kill so I decided to head back to one of my permissions. ..the abandoned Victorian house with the colonial cellar hole. Did pretty good considering I've been over that same small 40x40' area with the 4.5x7 coil. Nabbed some keepers that were a little deeper. A couple of cool buckles, pocket knife, a slick copper and a 17?? George III copper. Gonna head back there when I have more time. Might wait till spring actually. If anyone has any ideas on age of the buckles, I'm all ears :)

Nice find. Not sure if you can see a date, but head style indicates early 1800's.

I'm with Don. May be a 1806/07 variety. Great single chape buckle. That's older than the coin!

Thank you for the coin ID. I'm still learning about buckles. So the single chape buckle...you thinking late 1700's? Would it be a knee buckle? It still has a chunk of leather in it too. In my top 5 buckle finds so far!

I'm thinking its 1690-1720. Id have to check my references but I believe that's the range if my terrible memory is right

The second buckle with single tongue, my gut feeling on this is, it is made in old style, but I think it is a lot newer than the style of buckle it looks to be. It almost looks from what I can see it's chrome / nickle plated ?

Hey I could be way off, but ....

I can see seated britannia on the first "slick" copper.

Sounds like a great place. Abandoned, does that mean the veg. is out of control ?

I definitely think it's newer than 1720. It doesn't have that old feel to it, if you know what I mean. I'll get some pics of the back for you soon Abe.

By Abandoned I mean no longer lived in or maintained.
