Civil War Bugler's Mouth Piece & Other Items

Worked a piece of ground, new to me. it is part of the "Peninsula Campaign" in Virginia - THE "North Anna Battle" or "Hanover Junction" - ground was the toughest I've ever hunted. Ground loaded with mineral - giving me constant tone - got to pick the sweet sounds out of the hum of minerals (I guess) - nothing but pea size gravel up to golf ball size stone to work threw - broke a "el chipo" shovel, that has served me well ..... (Christmas is coming) - looks like a minie ball, bullet, butt plate, harness buckle, melted lead, and a "I don't know yet", scores of shotgun shell brass, and modern day bullets ....... but positive on the bugler's mouth piece .....

reflecting upon the "mouth piece" - the Campaign that this "burglar" rallied the troops threw ...... How may battles, the "cat and mouse game" - trudging towards Richmond - only to be lost the last weeks of May 1864, in a rain storm, that mud played havoc, and lost items could not be retrieved.

Reflecting on our finds is one of the best part of the find it self. When I find a CW artifact in a place that we have researched, I love to take a minute, look around me and think about what went on. Holding the history in my hand makes it real. Thanks for posting.

Agreed on everything above. Nice mouth piece, would also love to find one. Brass buttplate? Prob off a Tower enfield?

Super nice relic. That would have to be the center of attention in a display case.

"I don't know yet"

Looks to be a key hole cover plate.

The mouthpiece is cool, I also found one this past summer. I wasn't sure what it was until I posted here on T-Net. Congrats.
