I'm in the market for a good backpack either to put the detector in or to have as a normal day pack. I would be using it from parks to ghost towns to hiking etc. Anyone have any good brands? I heard the Garrett pack is cheaply made. Also what sorts of things do people generally take in their packs on their trips to old abandoned places whether ghost towns or homesteads where you have to hike some?

There is a long and very funny thread on this board about being out in the wild unprepared for emergency calls of nature, so don't forget the toilet paper. But I also think anyone wandering out where they may get lost or hurt needs a personal locator beacon.

I use a sling pack by East West, I got it on Amazon for cheap ($28). It is not cheaply made, it is a great pack. I use a sling pack because you don't have to take it off to access it. It slides around front and the zippers are made to access the bag that way. Big enough for water, food, layers, first aid and yes some toilet paper.
