It's an Austrian coin. Found one in the states dated 1800.

Yes and it has a concave shape and dating 1899

A bottle of water out in the field does wonders...
Not only to drink... but to dribble on your finds.

I carry 2 bottled waters in a snap pouch on my backside of my belt...
hanging over my arse which is the best spot and most comfortable spot for me...
Does not get "in the way"... and hardly even know its there...
UNLESS your belt sucks.
Anyway...
"joggers" water bottles... that have "squirt" cap are ideal.

It is the best way to clean your finds in the field...
Especially ones like what you just found.
No "wiping" ... or "rubbing"...
OR guessing at a dirt clod.

And now...
another "bone" I will throw you...

A spray paint can lid is an ideal item to act as a "bowl" that holds / props items... especially great for bigger coins...
They are lightweight... most are indestructible...
and they have a "raised chamber" inside the cap that can be used to "prop" up the item for a better rinse and an easier "grab" and flip etc.

Drill a hole in the cap at the rim 1/2 inch... some string... hang it.
Got what I invented and call the "dip cup".
AKA... The Diggers Dip Cup.
:P

Sincerly i never clean them until i'm back Home. Even don't look carefully at them cause i prefer to have a surprise when i clean them at home. With a cup of tea or a beer in summer [emoji3]its perfect

Vince are you hunting in pro zero mode? I have never used the AT Pro, but can't you Id what the nails ring in as and just ignore that VDI number unless it is 8 inches deep or deeper?
Some people would have you pull all the iron targets to hopefully find a good target that was being masked by the iron. What's your gut feeling?

Well... hence here lies the problems that arises from "leaving the dirt on it till you get home"

IF it is a major find...
You will have almost guaranteed have damaged it slightly by carrying in anything covered in dirt... especially if rubbing against other items.

To just throw something in a bag ... not knowing what it is... is... um... ?

But...
To each their own I guess.
Sure hope you do not find a great coin and do that.

Just take a piece of sandpaper to your coins... You will achieve the same effect.
Your grader of your coin(s) will agree.

I never thought of it this way before but you are completely right. I have always ignored the iron sound to 40 but never payed attention to the depth indicator. I'll try it next time i go. Thanks Loco

By the way, What would you think if u find a lot of old nails in a site?

This is why learning the sounds is more important than looking at the numbers. Until the Deus, I used sound alone. Now I have it, I 'glance' at the numbers. Something you will learn is that the numbers lie, especially if the small coin is deeper. (so look at for sounds that don't match the numbers - makes sense?) That's why I have always liked iffy signals & why I dig as much as I can. Every site is different, & as the years go on I get less fussy & dig more nails, but at the end of the process you should have no metal in the field, therefore you know you haven't missed the best item.(in ploughed land this can take 15 years of gridding the same spot)

If you have found other deep treasure there, maybe it is worth digging all targets.
