I have been waiting to post until I had something better to show than the usual clad and scout camp stuff. So this post is a catch up post. All the detecting in this post was done with my CZ21 with an Anderson rod. For some reason the original rod on the CZ tires my arm out quickly, but the Anderson rod is a lot easier to swing for long hunts.

Today I went back to the festival grounds and gridded part of the parking area. I found a few coins in 2 hours, but things were not going well so I decided to walk on and do some quick checks on other areas. After 2 hours of this my total was better and my time was up for the day. As I was headed out I gave it one more swing looking for that last coin. I got the high tone I was hoping for and out popped a silver ring with a green stone. Why does it happen so often that the best find is on the way out or the last target of the day?

All total I found 61 coins with a face value of $4.57, 2 keys, an aluminum miraculous medal, the silver ring, tabs, a few tent pegs, whole aluminum cans and can slaw.

They have been doing construction on one of the city buildings and removed the parking meters and tore up the parking lot. I detected along the edge in the grass where the meters had been hoping to find some silver and got lucky. In 2 hours I found 35 coins with a face value of $1.55, a few tabs, 2 sinkers, a wheatie and a Rosie.

The Rosie is a 1956 and has some tar on his face. The wheatie is a 1933 in decent shape for a change.

I made a few trips to the scout camp. On the first one in 6 hours I found 90 coins with a face value of $7.70, 46 camp tent pegs, a mess kit knife, a bunch of sinkers, a stainless fork, fishing lures, a live .22 round, a very large fish hook, a neckerchief slide, a Webelos pin, a penny folded in half, the back of a tiny padlock, a stainless piece from commercial cookware, a small railroad type spike, melted aluminum, tabs and foil.

The railroad spike is from the smaller rails used for a mine car. There are coal mines in the area. It might be from the old farm or it might have been brought in by scouts, no way to know for sure.

Someone must have thought there were tuna or marlins in the lake to bring such a large hook to fish with. I have found 3 and 4 ounce sinkers as well.

The next trip to camp in 6 hours I found 146 coins with a face value of $10.11, 53 camp tent pegs, an order of the arrow pin, a round ball, a fleur de lei pin, a scout pin, a neckerchief slide, a hatchet head, melted aluminum and tabs. I also found a metal joint from a folding canvas cot (forget to photo it before I left it at camp with the pegs). The round ball looks like it might be from the old farm, but there is no to be sure. It could be from a scout using a muzzle loader at the rifle range.

I made a third trip to camp and in 6 hours I found 121 coins with a face value of $10.30, 79 camp tent pegs, a neckerchief slide, a small dog game piece, a pile of sinkers, part of a fishing lure, lots of melted aluminum and a few tabs.

I made a trip back to the old high school hoping for more stuff from the civil war camp, but no luck. In 5 hours I found 38 coins with a face value of $3.60, 5 toy cars, a trigger from an old cap gun, a fired training/marking round, the emblem from a car, the upper finger hook from a trumpet, a pewter ornament and of course bits of old cans and tabs.

I only need $12 more between now and the end of April to beat my best year dollar total, so unless there is a major problem I should have a new high for my detecting year (May 1 to April 30). Some decent hunts, but nothing super this time. Hopefully some better hunts ahead. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.
