Found a silver button today at an old home site dating back to 1860s. Found near the old clothesline. Is there any way to ID the time period?

Cool design. I don't suspect it's much older than your site. Since it's your first button and silver (known for high signals), I must ask: do you dig low signals? All my old flat buttons are usually low

I do now, I used to not dig anything below foil bit after I found my first gold ring hinting below nickel, I dig almost everything just above iron.

Definitely don't remember one like that being posted. Hope you've opened the flood gates now.

Same with me, I have buttons ring as low as 40 on my T2, most small buttons ring up in the 50s (foil/nickel) and 60s (pull tab) with larger ones in the 70s (pull tab zinc penny). My friend used to keep his discrimination at 80 and never found buttons. Make sure to keep your discrimination low if you want to find buttons.
