First colonial copper!

Well I assume its my first colonial copper because it is pretty beat up!!! Its driving me nuts i cant clearly identify it. Any guesses would be appreciated although I wont hold my breathe. Its super thin and I cant make out "dots" around the edges (not sure of technical term) and is a tad smaller than a large cent.

Anyways, found these at a new cellar hole site in the woods. Excited for spring when I dont have to chop through 3 inches of ice to get to the ground. But at least the site is producing!

This coin rang up so clear and was so green in the hole as you can see! Nothing beats that feeling. This is also my first dandy button as well as convex button (although this could be a flatty just bent but it seems intentional). Also found a very small flat button with a back mark.

You managed a couple of oldies for your efforts the one piece buttons are circa 1860 or earlier so your site has some age.

WTG on the LC. Based on the buttons you pulled would indicate it could be a Colonial LC or early US Large Cent.

O man I know that feeling....me and my old man are always trying to top each other and when I found a colonial haha he was the first person I called...great find no matter the condition it's all about the history of that coin. Who had it..how did they drop it where were they headed.

If I squint one way I see a right-facing mailed bust on the obverse and Britannia on the reverse. If I squint the other way, I see a Higley Standing Deer copper :-) Even if it's neither of those, it still is a cool find. Congrats! Now that you got the first out of the way, they will come a little easier. Nice find on that convex button. I think that it was made that way. Not very common. A big dandy too. You had a fine hunt.

It looks thin enough to be British copper. Chances are it's colonial.

Hi; If it's toasted the best way to clean it is by soaking it in Lemon Juice for a few hours then wipe it clean. Repeat this step until you reach the desired state or condition. Ok.. Nice Fimd. PEACE:RONB
