There is more fake stamped jewelry out there than you'd think. That's the reason you want to have your own gold test kit. I've had some beautiful looking pieces stamped 14k or 18k that were junk.

Maybe a stupid question but if you pull a ring out of the ground and it is shiny gold with no wear and tear, and stamped, isn't it safe to assume that is gold? Wont all of the fake stuff corrode?

Could be 18K RGB. I found a 10K one at a old ballpark recently it means it is rolled gold plated. Mine was mostly gold looking but had spots where it was coming off.

You may want to clean that ring up a bit before you decide if it's junk or not. I've recovered rings at the beach that were totally encrusted, but, once cleaned, they were nice looking and passed the acid test.

More than once I have pulled out rings that looked exactly like that and they actually were gold. Some soil conditions and fertilizers will stick to a gold ring like epoxy. Make sure you scrutinize every find very close prior to disregarding them as something else. I have also found items that were fakes as suggested but take care, you might just be surprised.
