You might want to check the old highway maps for your area. Lots of little towns disappear and become wide spots in the road due to rezoning, whatever.

At several online sits there is posted an 1895 atlas (just type that into search box), listing all the towns with their populations. Compare that to a good new atlas like the Rand McNally Commercial Atlas & Marketing Guide, or the Rand McNally Large Scale Road Atlas , for current populations. If unlisted recently, could be a virgin site. Of course, many towns in GA were deserted before 1895. You might check eBay for pre-1895 GA maps for sale & look at them for recently unlisted towns. I purchased a book off of ebay, type in "site locator Georgia" Has listings of ghost towns, plantations, possible treasure locations, may help you out. Have one for Louisiana haven't checked out any sites yet though.
