As a guess..........I'd say tooth fairy.

Something the kids put their tooth in, and in the morning money is placed in the tooth's absence.

I find it strange that the inside is gold plated. This looks like a simple piece but it seems like it would be hard to gold plate the inside.

It's hard to gold plate the inside and not the outside - they do it in an immersion/electrolysis process and get it all at once.

Possibly a lady's ring holder for when she was doing the dishes and laundry.

Not always. I have a brush plating tool I use to do repairs & restorations. You can plate insides or groves without plating the other areas.

I think Charlie's right on with the ring holder. I vaguely remember something similar being sold in the trinket stores on Main St. That'd be around the late 70s early 80s.

Try looking for some of the Dizzyland fan websites I can't remember the name but there was one that had volumes of pics and info back to day one. I had it bookmarked, but that was before the great drive crash of 2001.

great question was posted
was Disney stamped any where?
Disney, protected their trade mark and images from the start of the brand
if its not, then its a novelty item - I like the tooth fairy idea
Don't recall tinker bell and a snail together
