My pole barn took a lightning strike Friday night and burned. As I was working on clean- up today I found this clevis the fire department's water cannon blasted mostly out of the ground. They had blew a trench about 6" wide and 6" deep and this was about half uncovered in the bottom. Any ideas on age? I've never seen one that was hand bent. Sorry about the barn! Did the barn have a hay loft? And has it been a barn all along? Most would have a hoist or winch to store hay up top..neat find!

This one was just an open front with a lean-to. I called it a pole barn, but others call them a machine shed. This place has been farmed for 150+ years so I'm not surprised anymore by what come out of the ground. About 300 yards from this there had been a small barn in the 1870's and when I was metal detecting around it last year I found some harness pieces that still had leather on them. I was surprised to see leather.
