I was metal detecting at a WW1 airplane base in San Diego. I was finding bullets and other small things. (and also getting stabbed by cactuses that went through my shoes and socks multiple times, that was fun) I found a little washer that I thought was just another piece of junk until I got it home and started cleaning it, if I decided to just throw it away I would have been throwing away my best find. After some cleaning with a toothbrush I started to see words, on one side I saw the word "heads" and on the other side I saw the word "tails" I was pretty sure I had a piece of solider art, I decided to put it on the what is it section to make sure I had what I thought I had and I owe a HUGE thank you to oldpueblo for helping me find out what I had and it was not just a piece of solider art but also a WW1 hand carved game piece! It just goes to show how you want to clean your finds before you throw them away! Because even the smallest things can have a huge story behind it.

Congrats on digging and keeping that cool piece. :occasion14: I believe I may have thrown that out, depending on the amount of targets dug during the hunt. I will be more vigilant of my finds going forward. Thanks for the reminder. :notworthy:

Thanks so much! It has happened to me a lot of times, when I think something is trash then I clean it and it turns out to be something amazing!
