I'm setting the bar high for myself this year, on my last post I showed a beautiful 1917 T1 SLQ (the best condition I've ever found one) and on the 14th of March I dug a nice old seated half. It's my second one ever in all my years of detecting. I found it in an old park in town here that I've really been hunting quite a bit for the past five years. After digging a big plug and recovering a few bits of iron on my way down, at about 8 inches on the sidewall I pinpoint it with my TRX and exposed the top edge of a big coin that was vertical in the dirt. By this time I was getting pretty geeked up so I carefully hogged out a big clod of dirt around it and it opened up to be a nice big silver. For those of you that don't know, I have the V3i and I have it set for a slow sweep speed which is best for deep coins, I also have a custom program I've had in it since probably only a month after I bought it back in May of 2010. Low and slow with the right settings are the only way I hunting in a hammered park.

For the first pic I figure it fitting to show a pic of the park from 1921 possibly around the time this coin might have been lost. A lot of people might ask why I would disclose the park in my post, well I've been metal detecting there and I'd say it's one of the first parks people will go to metal detecting and I've seen and met many detectorist's there in the past from all over trying to find something. Just last year a friend and I met there to do some detecting, we were shooting the bull a little before we headed on out, discussing the fact that there had to be some old silver in the ground around there somewhere, well I'm still sure there's more, finding it is the hard part

It's not a rare coin to a collector but for this detectorist it's a rarity finding something like this!

Definitely my best three coin hunt this year.

Don't overlook them hammered parks, especially when they're an old park.
