Hello everyone a few hours in the shade today. I really found a good spot to hunt it's so big I can hunt it for ever !! Lots of things happening there in the 1700s. Today I was hacking my way through thick brush scouting fall sites for my friend and I I found like 4 old foundations and a bunker. A dug into the hill above a known battle site from 1777 it is totally overgrown I could not swing at all !! There was one small area I could and bingo I get a solid signal high tone thinking coin then out pops this colonial shoe buckle (I think ) help if you know the hill was steep and I was alone so. Back to the trails I go found two more buckles I've no idea how to date them
If anyone knows please chime in.

The top one is probably early 1800s, the other two are later 19th C.

I have found several of the bottom right in various sizes. 1 of the type with the roller. always solid brass and a few with some silver plating. they sell well on Ebay

Top one looks 18th C, the others are much later.

The top one is 1700's (probably late 1700s) the small one could be as early as 1850s but most likely 1870s-1900 and the other (roller) is most certainly 1890s-1920s

I agree with Cru and Dan. The top one is an 18th century shoe buckle frame. The other two are much later.

Port Ewen Ace says they sell well on eBay which was interesting--not sure what people use them for or if they collect...I'd expect the Colonial-era one to fetch a bit more. I seem to find tons of buckles myself, but won't sell mine. I'll probably just make a huge buckle display when I get around to it :laughing7:

Try searching eBay for "Colonial shoe buckles" and "vintage horse tack buckles" to get some idea of what they might sell for.

I just took a look and both are listed. As expected Colonial buckles esp those with chapes sell for more than the horse tack (around $20 - $30).
