I just found this and was wondering about the numeral 8 on the obverse. I am pretty sure it’s not a press job and by the condition the penny is pretty much toasty.
Any ideas on what I am seeing?
Thanks in advance

So mauled, doubt there is any value in it anymore. Interesting mark above the date though, it appears raised, so maybe not any sort of punchmark that I have seen, those usually go into a coin not raised. Zincs get a lot of lamination issues with the zinc making little gas bubbles and stuff in odd patterns sometimes /shrug.
