Found this disc in a field where a late 1800s farm house was. Thought it was aluminum can lid and tossed it in my trash pouch. When I got home I noticed the silver mark. Apparently it’s Gorham silver and this mark was used from 1864 to 1890. No idea what it was in its former, more glorious life.

Excellent save. Nice chunk of silver. My only thought would be bottom of a tea pot or something to set the teapot on. Just a random guess though.

Yeah, I was thinking something like that, too. It has a little lip on the bottom where it could have been soldered to something.
The lip is to fix it to the rest of the watch casing.

If this was a watch back, the markings would be on the outside of the case.( They are normally on the inside of the case.) The lip must be on the other side, as the pictured side is smooth! This leads me to believe you are correct in thinking it's the bottom of something............I'm no "expert", but this is what makes sense to me........
