Large stone with black shiny crust...... Meteorite or meteowrong??

Large stone found in the hills of Humboldt county California. The rock in question was found a couple months ago on a very remote hillside. No other similar looking rocks were found. It doesn’t seem to be magnetic. I have no knowledge, and have not been able to find anyone locally that can give me an answer or point me in the right direction. Thanks you for your time!

Not a meteorite.

Since it was found in Humboldt County, there a few at least a few candidates for type of rock. I would suggest a rock shop or lapidary club for identification, as I have found several rock types that resemble yours.

It looks like it's been painted, or is covered in asphalt. There are no natural rocks that look like that, so what are you not telling us, and why do you think anyone can answer questions that have no answer?

The greenish undertones suggest darker serpentines. Definitely not quality carving material, in my opinion. Yours is similar to some I have found in the Rogue, Chetco, and Smith River drainages. I hesitate suggesting some of the poor quality jade that is also found in the region. There are a few rock shops in the area, in addition to several lapidaries that may be able to positively identify the rock. There are also geology departments at the local colleges that may be able to help.

Looks like a piece of serpentine to me. Has been worn down, but no regmaglympts, no iron/nickel showing. Sorry.

On the good side, black jade does have value in the Chinese market.
