Was walking across one of my favorite beaches at low tide and after about 20 minutes I spotted a black canvas bag in the water. I pulled the bag out of the mud and saw that the main compartment was opened and full of mud. There was nothing of value in the main compartment, but on the side I noticed a secondary compartment. The zipper was rusted and seized shut. To open the compartment I used a fishhook that I had found to tear a hole in the interior lining of the bag - tearing into the side compartment. At first all I saw was brown muck, but after I washed a little water over it I could see coins - many many coins! 98 Quarters, 115 dimes, 23 nickles, a Jamaican $20 coin, a Jamaican 1$ coin, and a couple hundred pennies. So around $40 in US currency all together.Oldest quarter was a 1965, oldest nickle was a 1964, no silver but I'm not complaining :icon_king:

The bag pictured where I found it:

Video taken of the find seconds after I tore open the compartment:

Sorting and counting the coins:

Bag must not have been submerged for more than a week as most of the zinc pennies were still intact, although some had begun to corrode. So maybe a week or very slightly longer submersion time at most.

Probably stolen, thief took the big bills from the main compartment, didn't bother with the change, then chucked the whole thing into the water to hide the crime. Or it could have fallen overboard someone's boat, sank, and got washed up with the waves. In any case I'm going to be cashing these in at the bank for some legal tender notes, then spending the fiat notes at a coin shop for some real money. :)

Very interesting - That's a nice little chunk of spendable coin right there . You could acquire some of your preferred adult beverages !

Nice find. It couldn't have been in there long because the clad is in good shape. Free money is always a good thing!

Nice find with an eerie background. Definitely NOT something to hang onto if the boat was going down.

Cool find! I don't know of any coke machines that except pennies.
