A friend of mine definitely believes in saving and storing silver for that reason. He has over 14,000 oz of physical silver in his possession (a lot of it in silver dimes--his preference, but larger ingots or rounds as well). That way, it can be stored in 3/4" PVC pipe inside walls, floors, attics, etc. He can fit over 2,000 dimes in a 6' section. He wants the ability to trade/barter, etc without pulling out a $10 or $20 gold piece for a small barter without a means to break it.
