So I finally got to test my coils out on the beach. (East NC).. I didnt really have alot of time so I started with the D2 because it was on the unit. Salt. Gain about 9. No disc., alt relic. Threshold about 10 oclock.
I found the machine sorta unstable, found a recent penny, nickle.. and a few CAPS (about 10) & pulltabs. Kinda boring. Hardly could get 5in on a nickle. No emi issues jus basically noisy.
Next morning put the 950 on and set it up same way and started on down the same way as I did with the 10". Machine was way less chatty. Actually super calm.. and right away grab a quarter at 9in a few pennies, an old silver spoon fishing lure about a foot deep. 3 dimes and 1 CAP! Musta picked em all up the 1st day.
All around I would say from this experience the 950 blew the D2 away.
At home in the relic world the D2 is my ticket. Thought Id share.. HH.

That seem to be the consensus! 950 is better on a salt beach, and the D2 is better in mineralized soils. Personal preference everywhere else.

I read a post where some folks said the D2 worked in the sand. Might work, but not to my expectations.
