Need help identifying this rock, found on the beach?

Hi everyone, I was just looking for some help in identifying this rock my friend found. She found it a couple of years ago at a beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It looks like it's full of a ton of little rocks, as you can see in the pictures I have included. It is not too hard, and rather pliable. She says it kind of leaves a black residue when you touch it and it is kind of sticky. Specifically, the stickiness comes from a newly exposed edge, so when it is cracked into a smaller piece, the inside feels sticky. She also says that when it is being cracked open, it is kind of doughy. Here is a picture:

Asphalt. I was avoiding a bunch at the beach the other day. It gets used as fill a lot.
