Try as everybody knows is to read all you can about detecting, and ways to detect- then have a fairly good detector and then bury money(coins) wife's wedding in plastic bag and see what it reads on you detector. Will teach you tones of metal at different depths write down what you find, have fun learning. Takes time like everything else you learn to do, no fast way to learn, spend a lot of time and you will be rewarded. HAPPY HUNTING
