Yesterday we spent a little time driving around checking the state of the fields. We came back to our best option, right now, & did a small area where we got 6 scrappies. I then wanted to check another field that we have tried a couple of times before without success, but I felt sure that the scatter should extend in that direction. One reason/theory, I have, is a track-way leading to a Roman Road. For some reason the first few runs were blank & just as it was getting dark we came into a patch of coins - 8. Some bigger one's so I hope tomorrow it continues & doesn't just stop.
1 hr 45 mins;

14 Scrappies
Hammered Halfgroat of Edward III (13th C) - A random surprise & the first in some time.

Your finds are amazing over there. Always blows me away. What is the oldest coin youve found? Roman?

Nice Hammered Silver Cru, and even sweeter as a random find. I get a pang of jealousy whenever I see you or others dig that good stuff.

Nice job sniffing out that new patch of coins. Hope you get into a really productive area. BTW - what is the significance of the larger coins?
When you get the largest denomination of Roman Coin (not easily lost) then your hoping a Silver is not far way. They are also 1st-2nd C AD, so could indicate a long occupation, which then increases the coin losses.

Can you send a picture of the back side of the two large coins? I may be able to help you identify them. I just found one similar and did a lot of research on them. This is mine......

Cru'Dad is a master IDer he records all the Roman Coins to the British Museum(BM) standard & we record about half of our coins directly with the BM. About 500 a year (out of the 1000 or so we find), of which he is the first identifier, the second being the BM coin department expert.
So no for a reverse picture it is Faustina Junior, with SPES reverse.

Celtic Potin, about 90BC, we only started minting in Kent at about 120BC.

No-one is every due a Gold Hammered, as they are the rarest of all the Gold coin types. Most would be lucky to get 1 in a lifetime, so now you have talked it up, lets live in hope.
