Ahh the New Year dawned bright and sunny, so to give you all a change from pretty scenery and musket balls, we went back to the muddy fields!

a mystery item, to start you off 😆.. then a nice lead weight, just the 2 musket balls, one strangely pitted 🤔, 2 pieces of buckle, then a toy digger bucket 😳… a cog and knob*, buttons, a clay pipe stem and bowl….. and finally my hammered 😍… no I’d yet, but a great start to the New Year 😆 xx

Managed to break my Deus so had the control box in my pouch which was frankly v annoying 🙄…. So took a couple of pics mainly to capture the gorgeous blue sky …. and remind me how lucky I am to be out in the fresh air! 😂😂 xx

(edited to add having just read that back… I thought “The Cog and Knob “ would be a great name for a pub 😂).

First day of the year, and one taco'd Hammie in the pouch. Congrats

It sure looks a little mouse or some other little critter was chewing the lead musket ball.
1st item part of a brooch?

Now why did you break your toy anyways-sorry to hear that Himself had such a hard head.

Thanks Peps, well you know the top of the stalk … where the box thing sits.. thats what did break… I feel sure himself tampered with it at lunch time, as he literally only found 2 rubbish buttons and the pipe end 🙄 he spent the whole day walking in circles looking for Romans 🙄 the boy is a fool 😂😂 xx

Just order another one up, not sure if it's covered under warranty though.

Yes it seems that Himself is fixed on those grotty Romans bronzes.

Very nice finds and scenery. The hole in the bullet means it was pulled out with a worm due to a misfire.

Lead oxide is sweet; "sugar of lead". It's a reason children used to suck on white painted furniture. I suspect that the taste entices animals and even people to nibble on it. Not good for their health!
The hole in the bullet and looks like a "hollow point" that would have been put into the bullet when it was made. It's for greater expansion upon impact. It looks like a fairly modern bullet.

Sorry I’m late to the party, but I was getting “hammered at The Cog & Knob”. 🍺🤪🍺🤪
Congrats on the recoveries. Sorry to hear your detector was sabotaged.
Glad you were able to get out. 👍

I believe my first hammered of the year is an Edward IV 1461 - 1483 xx

I also think its our first Edward IV so quite chuffed with that 😆 xx
