Yesterday I dug a 1919 half dollar so today I started in the same area as the half. I spent the first 4 hours finding numerous clad coins and 5 wheat pennies.

It was a relief to finally dig a keeper after 4 hours of hunting, a silver coin ring at 6 inches with a date of 1936. About 30 minutes later I get a good hit on a 6 inch deep coin signal. Plunging my Lesche digger into the ground I noticed that this was going to be a tough recovery, the roots were big and they were everywhere.:BangHead: I had to make the hole twice the size to get under the big roots. Finally after 15 minutes of struggle I pull out of the hole a 1937-S Merc! :icon_thumleft:...Good start for the new year!

That coin ring is pretty impressive; I've never seen one. Great hunt.

Nice silver, especially the ring! I also get excited when my target is under a root. My last root battle yielded a silver real, so I always view them as a good sign. The Russian button is interesting and I can't help but wonder what the story is behind that one. Congrats on some good finds!

I've actually had to leave several good coin targets in the ground over the years do to the fact that roots can be impossible some times. Perhaps if I carried a jackhammer I could retrieve some of the good targets I've left behind....:(
