Tom, while that may be true. It’s still fun to read around the old lores, and who knows, maybe one or two of them may be half right.

Or drop clues as to what some places were called back in the day....which in turn leads to some other truths on treasure.....RESEARCH is fun:occasion14:

Hey man, it's my campfire. Just because they don't have any real treasure stories outside of Hollywood, doesn't mean you have to trample all over my dreams.

Sheesk, ALL of them are "half right". They ALL contain real names, dates, events, etc.... Heck, even 99% "right". But the problem is: if the 1% that happens to be "wrong", is whether or not there's a treasure there, then it really doesn't matter if the half or 99% is "right", eh ?

Ive noticed that Tom is a realist, not a dreamer. Nothing wrong with that as long as you understand that most metal detectorist are dreamers and you can't change that......Dreamers still look for treasure while realist believe its already been found.

ok ok, I believe in Santa Claus. Problem solved, eh ? :laughing7:

Back in the 1960s & '70s the treasure mag's were packed FULL of those type stories. Eg.: "Lost mine" and "stolen stage coach loot", and "stashed military payroll" type stories. A friend of mine even submitted one of the stories (to get the $50 acceptance /publication pay). Totally made up. But ...... hey .... throw some faded newspaper clippings, real names/dates, and a drawing a miner posed next to his burro, then ....... by golly .... IT MUST be true ! 8-)

We got a good laugh wondering if anyone ever went looking for that one.

What’s amazing is that most ‘real treasure hunters’ NEVER have a press conference when they find the real treasure. Therefore those looking are still looking long after the hush hush hunter already claimed their booty.

IMHO in order to be highly successful is to take the pass that is least traveled. Ferret out your own leads that have been long forgotten and never ‘broadcasted out’ in books. The kind of research that is shared by our Moderator Jeff. I believe in the law of averages. 100,000 books sold detailing a particular treasure scenario. 100 will look for it (that’s 1 for every thousand books sold

10 will really research and find clues ( that’s 1 for every 10,000 books sold) and one dude will find the treasure and keep his mouth shut to stick it to the man and that my friends is the (1 for every 100,000 books sold 0.000001% Chance)

Nevertheless it can be done to say yiu can’t find treasure is lazy. Go get it!

Cheers
