A book? It looked like a gold bar at first!😩
I thought the same first looking at it also.
Then I thought it's probably one of those bars they use in the pictures/videos of recovering the Japanese gold bars that seem to as common as pull tabs.

That block of opaly looking stuff is either “plastic opal” if light weight, if it feels like glass it’s gilson opal which glass blowers love.
