I found this old copper in the woods today, at a spot dating back to the 1700s. Sadly, it's *really* worn, and I can't quite identify it (even worse, I managed to scratch it with my digger...)

This is the sixth toasted old copper I've found in this place - I sure wish they would have dropped some silver coins!

Any ideas what this could be?

It's 26mm across - too small to be a US large cent, too large to be a US half cent. I'm thinking it could be a King George halfpenny : if I hold the coin just right and squint a little, I can sort of see the outline of profile facing right on the front, and possibly the head and arm of a seated Britannia figure on the back ... but maybe that's just wishful thinking...

Thanks for looking - HH!

It's def a right facing bust. On the pic on the right you can see the small head near the top and the outline of the top of the staff. It's a BRITANNIA
Georgeiii I believe

Yup, that's what I see as well. How thick is the coin? It should be quite a bit thinner than a LC.

This coin is really thin - less than 1/16". As you said, the large cents I've found are much thicker than this.

Looks like this could be any one of a number of different coins. Could be a George III, counterfeit George III, Machin's Mills copper or Vermont in that order. Head style is different than the CT's. To the right of the bust's nose there appears to be an I or T which could be any one of the above, but not a CT.
