I started the year off with a little relic hunt. I am still learning the ropes and usually dig TONS of trash. Today i planned to dig anything non ferrous, but just super consistent tones/vdi’s, it only took 5 minutes to get my first good signal ... 19-20 (Nox800). First hole of the day turned out to be what I believe is a worn out KGIi.

A few feet away I got a 11-12 without the iron buzz that shot shells will usually have so I dug that target too and got my first tombac button, and a dandy to boot!. I went on to dig a couple buttons, a few bullets and scrap lead, a pewter spoon handle.... and yes, more trash than i had hoped. My last good signal of the day was a 25-27. I saw the imprint before i saw the coin itself but if you look close you can see the rim of my first draped bust large cent.

The coins: KG2(?) and Draped Bust (1798?... appears someone hammered flat spots into the rim)

What many don't realise, at the start of learning a machine when you dig the most trash is actually where you want to be all the time on a good site, in fact you want to clear the iron as well, but you can do that 2nd or 3rd sweep of the site.
Don't only dig ''super consistent tones/vdi’s'' which is a bad plan, many of my best finds were terrible/iffy signals.
People get sucked into the bell & whistles of a machine, but its very simple really. Ses. High, Disc 0. Hear everything & decide, dig most things & grid the area. Digging tons of trash quickly is the best path to success, there are no good short-cuts, only paths to missing the gold.

PS. You did well & your in the right spot, now clear it out.

Crusader.... I ran with my iron on and nothing discriminated. My Nox will ring up square nails and other iron in the same range as British coppers. With the iron on i was almost able to “call” my targets... that and i tried to avoid super loud, jumpy high tones as the property is loaded with can-slaw. It was a learning day for me, next time i visit the site i will take your advice and dig more iffy signals. Cheers!

I've always said if your in the mind set of a Trash Digger, instead of Treasure Hunter your do well. Clearing away as many signals as possible in a good site needs to be done. We found a gold sovereign under a horse shoe. I knew it was big iron but cleared it out the way. Also there are many reasons why a good find can sound iffy.
