Pecking stone

This was found in area (private property, with permission) where other stone artifacts were found (triangle points, pottery shards)

I believe it is a pecking stone (quite a bit smaller than a baseball)… you can see the pecks or small chips along the leading edge.

Possibly a hammer stone or mano I'd say. Pic2 looks to exhibit use wear. I'm not sure how to ID a "pecking stone".

Not sure of the difference between pecking or hammer… I always thought a pecking stone was for smaller work and hammer stone for for heavy duty “pecking” LOL

Not sure it means much but there is a light colored wear mark on both sides -about where your thumb and middle finger might rest....

if you are thinking this was used to flake projectile points, then the answer is no.

Is it made of quartzite?
Maybe an abraider?
