I'm assuming today will be the last day I'll detect in 2015. My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now (she was due last week), but I revisited a spot today about 5 miles down the road (after making sure I had cell service there) that I found an IHP at this summer. It's a yard now, but there used to be a church there. I focused mainly on where the church was last time, but today I found a hot spot of some sort over in one corner of the property.

Top Row: 1927 King George V British Penny, 1954 silver Washington quarter
Second Row: 1936 Buffalo nickel, 1883 seated dime (bucket list coin for me...the ONLY thing not worn off is the date. It's the smoothest coin I've ever found), 1912D Barber dime
Third Row: 1929 buffalo nickel, 1896 indian head penny, 1907 indian head penny
Bottom: 1903 'V' nickel (another bucket list coin. Not much detail but I'll take it).

The British coin...I'll admit, I cleaned it. I don't really care about foreign coinage much, so I thought I'd try something I've never tried on big copper on the off chance it could help me out in the future with US large cents. It didn't impress me, but it's really not a major loss. Lesson learned. That '07 IHP had a clear date until I brushed the dirt away with the back of a wooden match. I figure it can't get much worse, so I'm going to try electrolysis on it tomorrow. I've only ever done that on one bronze token before and was amazed at the results. It's not a key date so, again, nothing to lose by trying!

This will make the coin guys cringe, but salt/vinegar and then steel wool. Again, I wouldn't do this on a coin I actually cared anything about, but it was a little experiment.

I was 99% sure that's what it was anyway, but on my way home it dawned on me it could be either a dime, half dime, or possibly a 3 center. The date narrows it down to a seated dime though. My first seated ever, so it's not ideal by any means but it's a starting point for next year.

Forgot to include the 10 wheats I dug too. I keep those but I don't really count them as keepers if that makes sense. The V-nickel was my first, but it finally completes my dug nickel group. I dug a shield last year (dateless) so this is the one I've been waiting on.

Yea, I have destroyed coins that I don't care about too...either to simply identify what the coin is, like a wheat or indian, or to see a date....

great finds, and good luck to you and your family...

Canada, eh? I assumed you guys had to learn to do everything regardless of winter. Before I moved here I was living in Erie, PA about 12 miles off the lake in the snow belt so we pretty much had to get all of our non-snow outdoor recreation in between May and October because the ground was covered the rest of the time.

Haha, yeah gotta learn to live with it. It's not the snow I mind so much, but the wind and the months of -30/-40 and super short days that drive me nuts. I can't believe the prairie pioneers actually stayed here after going through their first winter.
