I think I remember seeing that type of grip on cap pistols in the late 50s. I'm sure someone will come on and nail it shortly.

Yep, cap pistol. I had a similar set of cap pistols in the mid 50's with the horses heads and nice leather holsters with conchos. The whole rig. Shot a lot of bad hombres and injuns with those pistols.
