On July 24, 2011, I went metal detecting at my neighbor's house that was built in 1695. I decided to detect in the front yard and I focused on the area around the big tree. First I found an Indian Head Penny at around 6 inches deep. The Indian Head was from 1905, my first 1900's Indian Head. Next I found an old button. The button still has its shank, and looks to be in good condition. While I was metal detecting around the base of the tree, I decided to make a straight path from the tree to my house, since it was getting a little late. Not far from the tree I got a Half Dollar signal at 6/8 inches deep. I was hoping that it was going to be a Colonial Copper, but I really doubted it would be. When I saw the large copper in the dirt, I was stunned. I couldn't believe it when I saw the date on it: 1818. It's my oldest coin, and one of my best finds. I had a great day of detecting in my neighbor's yard.
