Has a Classical Greek look to me - I'm guessing it's Victorian - I would like to see the underside of it , and can you tell us
something about the weight of this ? , Any idea what it is composed of ? Not trying to play 20 questions - but you asked for
help ID ing this - a bit more info would go a long way to that end - Interesting Find .
Argentium, It is made of brass and is pretty thin. The back looks just like the front but is pushed in where as the front is pushed out. There are 2 small holes, 1 in the top and 1 on the bottom right. There are iron stains around these 2 holes so i am assuming it was nailed to something. Thanks for you help.
The earlier guess relating to a bookend ornament is a decent guess - I think the underside might have been filled at one time
with a compound to support the embossed hollow areas - perhaps a beeswax and plaster compound .
