Rush Township police Terrorize varsity girls' over rifle case ?

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police responded to a report of a man carrying a long-rifle case on the grounds of Marian High School on Sunday afternoon, according to a Schuylkill County Communications supervisor.
The call came in at 3:54 p.m. and police responded to secure the grounds. Assisting Rush Township were state police at Frackville and municipal police from Tamaqua, Kline Township, McAdoo and Mahanoy City, according to the supervisor.
When police arrived they secured the building, checked the grounds and conducted a search of the school, but could not locate the man with the rifle case, according to the supervisor. Rush Township police could not be reached for comment Sunday night.

"Obviously, they were a little shaken up," O'Brien said of the players. "A lot of our team's families were at the game and (players) weren't sure what was going on."
That was the case for senior Molly Burke, who said that her parents attended the game.
"They were in the bleachers and I didn't know where everybody in the bleachers went," she said.
The team was escorted to the bus about an hour after the lockdown commenced, according to O'Brien.
"We were happy that we got out of there," Jillian said of the talk on the drive home. "We couldn't believe it happened and that it actually does happen around here."

Anything, remotely resembling a firearm or otherwise will cause panic. If someone called saying a man with a rifle case is walking around the school will cause the police to respond. The school will lock down etc. No one will take chances for about another year or so. If they did not respond in such a manner and something would have happened, then the sharks would be all over it.

A lawyer is already trying to get a survivor of the CT school shooting to sue the school for failing to protect.

Rifle cases?

The case for my metal detector has been mistaken for a rifle case before.

Anyone else have that problem?

Let's see . . . Rifle case . . . entering school yard . . . Jeff, they saw you!!!

I just break down the rod on my metal detector in two and put it in a backpack with all the rest of my stuff.
I found this backpack that is from the same manufacturer that makes the Minelab one. Its built sturdy and everything fits in it.

I can't blame the public for their paranoia these days.
I try to keep things as inconspicuous as possible to avoid any unnessary attention called to me.
That little bit of effort just helps keep out any unnecessary drama that I don't care to deal with.

The other day my son and his buddies decided to have an air soft war in the woods near our house. Of course they were all dressed in their camo gear with their air soft guns, but had to walk down our street a bit to get to the woods. Well, you guessed it, someone in the neighborhood called the police saying "men with military style weapons were walking down the street". Three squad cars came and waited around the area for the boys to come out of the woods and "detained them" with a lot of questions! The police told them not to walk in the street with their air soft guns anymore.

That's a tactical looking backpack Ace. Enjoy it while they're still allowed.

Yea, I guess when that day comes I'll put a "Greenpeace" sticker on it and once again fly under the radar.:laughing7:
You must improvise, adapt & overcome.

It's a shame boys, but the world ain't what it was when we were growing up.
Alot more crazyness going on which makes people paranoid.

That tactical looking backpack above looks like an "assault" backpack to me. Are they going to ban them also? What's the criterion.....over 6 buckles and 4 zippers?

Better safe than sorry...

I don't fault the police in this ,they are responding correctly. MY problem is with all the cell-phone idiots. On the fire dept we get so many calls from these yayhoos. They can't be bothered to stop and look for 2 seconds, just THINK they see something and call 911.

I got a call of a man carrying a ammo crate into the woods. Upon arrival and talking to the guy I realized from his huge company logo that he was a qc guy for a concrete company and he had his test equipment in the box. Geez spooky people. Jason I got a call from someone saying they had a fire and believed it was set intentionally by a gun toting man. Get there and it's a guy using a pressure washer near his burn barrel. No fire and no gun. Geez

All good points here what we all need to remember here is everyone is still in a lockdown mode and if we as hobbiest metal detectorist are going to try to search school grounds we need to be aware of this and plan accordingly by not carrying cases on the school grounds Course I hhave been Lucky as most of the Police officers here know me and see me out alot in the parks and on private lots that I have contacted the owners and got permission to search . I dont carry my detectors in a bag or other carrier either all it would take is one official to say the word and no more searchng on Public school Property ! and That would be a shame! Hope everyone has a great year detecting lets keep it safe and be able to pass it own to Our Grandchildren

maybe they need to get Teachers to carry weapons.

Then the paranoids will calm down & think "There goes another teacher" when they see
someone carrying what will probably turn out to have been a pencil case
