Hey guys,

Gheenoe78 and I got out on the water early and hit a shoreline site that bordered an 18th century plantation. This site was definitely a mix of highs and lows...the lows being the knee deep mud Gheenoe78 sunk into, nearly losing a boot, while the highs were the outstanding range of relics we recovered spanning over 250 years.

Defying the swarms of biting gnats and mosquitoes, I manage to recover some outstanding buttons: domed 35mm copper scripted button (unknown origins), late 1700's 30mm heavy pewter dandy, 2 acorn pewter 1 piece buttons (looking for more info on these), tomac button, 25mm fancy copper button, 2 brass small flat buttons and a small copper ring. The surprises of the day were a an intact PN Southern Campaign Rev War button and 1902 Great Seal button. Among the coins recovered was a 17X7 George III half penny and a 1903 Barber Dime! (The 1772 GIII picture is just for reference). An unmarked brass padlock also survived the salt water after a few hundred years, in full working order. Another great hunt...and wait till Gheenoe posts his intact 1770 Artois buckle! Thanks for looking

In hindsight, I'm wondering if someone else lost his shoe in that muck which is how I came to find the buckle. One acorn button, a roached copper flat button, salt-worn Indian head, 1910 wheatie and a pocket knife added to the haul. All in all a great day.

Its worth noting that that button you found has a reverse script N. Havent seen any others like it and its not shown in any books ive seen. Adds to the riddle...

Yea, the strange thing is that the P is correctly stamped...making the reverse N on the scissor mold a mistake. Potentially proof that it was manufactured locally and not an import from Spain as some have speculated.
