The boy and I went back to where we found the five IH's the day before. The homeowner was getting ready to run some errands so we decided to come back another day. Went across the street to a property we were checking out the day before and got the ok to go.
My first hit turned out to be a small wheat and silver spill. First hole was 2 wheats, a foot away another hole and another wheat. Re-checking after fixing my last hole I get another hit right next to that hole. This time it was a 1911 Barber dime.
The kid was busy himself digging a few wheats and then a war nickle, 1944-P
After finding a few more wheats I get a mid 70's hit and decide to dig it. The boy passed this hit a few minutes ago thinking aluminum slaw, unexpected civil war lead.
We both found some more wheats and in between my wheat finds I find first a 1944 merc and then a little while later a 1919 merc. It was my turn today for the silver.
Things slowed down and we only had about an hour to hunt so we left in search of another property. We got lucky and got another permission just up the road.
All I found at this property was some more wheats and a .25 cent play money coin. The kid made out better finding some more wheats, one half to a heart shaped compact of sorts, and a 1942 merc.
I ended the day with a dozen wheats and the boy with 9 wheats.
It was a good hunt and one of the few hunts where both of us find silver on the same hunt.

I bet your son will dig the next signal he thinks is aluminum, huh? Nice finds again.

Old Dude- I probably wouldn't have dug it either, every now and then I'll dig a hit just to dig it. That happened to be one of those hits. lol
For some reason yesterday my dime hits were coming up as wheats, a little lower then they should have been coming up. I thought maybe the 75-76 hit with the lead was just a low wheat hit? Never expected a civil war bullet.

I know it's not your birth year, we met in O.C. on the beach I think two years ago. Lol Do you remember running into my son and I metal detecting on the beach?

What makes 1911 a special year for you? I thought there was a double image issue with the 1911? If there was, this one doesn't qualify.

I'm wrong, I believe it's the 1919 merc with the double die issues.

I may not remember names but I do remember the time, which is amazing, you guys were on the drysand ...

1911, I love the era from 1900 till just after 1945..they put so much into the designing of everything, things were simple, you worked hard and Lived.

I would say no to going in the water but I have to tell you 90% of my good targets were wetsand last year, including the 3 platinum set...High on the slope. I will be there from June 1st till Sept 30th on 31st street.. Look me up when you get out...plenty of treasure for all...
