It is very unusual to see you chafing dish with an honorary. very cool.

How big is it?

Is it likely not a chafing dish, but rather a butter chiller.

A nice piece.

Yeah... that's on the large side, but I'm pretty certain it's a butter chiller and not a chafing dish.

Search on "roll top silver plate butter chiller" on eBay and you will see dozens of examples.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I found one on ebay for $3600, no way its worth that much. Most importantly how in the heck did this find its way to Wisconsin?!

I would imagine it found it's way over here via a family member that emigrated here from the UK sometime in the last century. I found this little excerpt of information about the Colonel from the London Gazette...

He was a member of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI) 3rd battalion. On March 4, 1899 Major and (honorary) Lt. Col. E.T. Wakeman resigned his commission, also is permitted to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform on retirement.


ps- a "Swede" is a rutabaga. Don't think I've ever ate one myself.
