Some Buttons and a what's it....

Found a nice sight...all the coppers were toastNo silvers, but some nice buttons. I know the Excelsior button is military, if anyone sees any other military feel free to let me know. I love the decorative tombac button... unique. Also... chime in if you can ID that piece with the loop and hook...I would like to know what it is.

nice finds. Nice early New York militia button circa 1820's-1830's. I really like the tombac button with the 'crossed pitchforks' on it. I believe the item on the bottom is part of a 'rein guide' or some other part of a harness. congrats on some neat stuff!

Agreed, the loop is part of a horse harness.

To get a tombac like that is rare, very nice. The aminal ones I really like, but anything thats not geometic is a find in my books.

HI Michelet; The Excelsior Button is an 1812 Naval Officers Button. It is fairly common but still commands an $70 - $100 price tag. I believe that all your buttons date to 1780 - 1815. That tombac button is UNIQUE and VERY valuable. I would not be surprised to see it go for $150 - $200 easily because of it's style. I love it. All the other buttons are Civilian in use. They bring $3 - $5 each ok. Great site there. It is definitely a Rev War site. keep hunting it and I believe you will pop silver there. The site was used heavily back then ok. Anyways, great finds. Keep us Posted ok. PEACE:RONB :leprechaun-hat:

Are you sure about the tombac price? If so I'm shocked, I would struggle to get £5 over here for it.

Button day!! Great set of finds there. I would love to have a button filled hunt like that. My favorite is the crossed (pitchfork?) button.
