I believe this is a sword hanger chain from the civil war, also my first pewter button which has a design, many pewter handles one of them says best Britannia metal and stamped with a crown, that one thing looks like a boot and I think had a blade in it, it says hearis aleg and foot on one side and ahead good blade tool on the other, at least I think that's what it says, they were found in my spot in the woods where everything dates from the 1700s to the civil war

Hey crabstang44, looks like horse tack... specifically a horse bridle chain. I've found a similar one and you can find them on Google images. Here is a similar one I just found online.

crabstang44, I got a chance to take a picture of the one I found a couple months ago. Its plow struck... bent and broke, but a similar design to yours. While the middles appear ornate and different, the loop and hooks appear very similar in design in mine, yours and the example I pulled online last night.

I think horse tack is correct, I had an identical piece when I was a kid, I found it in my grandfathers barn, and HE never had a sword.
