Still tryin'

Since the weather is allowing, somebody's gotta post something! :dontknow: LOL

Soon, a lot of us are just going to be going stir crazy and reading all the posts. So, I'm trying to
continue until I can't. :)

Thought I'd try the cornfield again. 3.5 hours later and :

2014 (1023).jpg

2 small bullets, 1 smashed, a nice musketball? and a button off
George Washington's longjohns. ;)

2014 (1024).jpg

Anyone know their cars? :dontknow:

2014 (1027).jpg

I was hoping, when I saw the spoon. Nice & clean.
But, no. :dontknow:

2014 (1026).jpg

Where have I seen this before?
Ummmmmm....is it the Thunderbird insignia?
How far do they go back?

2014 (1025).jpg

Looks like Fishy just wants to spoon. ;)

Say, Old Dude?
Remind me again, just why is it I'm spending 3.5 hours in a cornfield???? :dontknow:

Thanks for peeking!

You're spending that much time in fields due to their potential, each year they're plowed under is like Marty mcfly going back to the future (by that I mean past) in his delorean

Keep a plugging away you'll turn up some goods

Ummmm.....they don't plow here. So, I'm awfully close to the true definition
of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

No place is ever hunted out. But, if nothing was lost there, well, you know. ;)

Thanks!

Oh, hmm mine is plowed under every year, I guess that explains why I kicked out a LC with the heel of my boot once, and have found tombacs right in the surface, but even unplowed fields have the potential

Soooooo.....finding...maybe 1 or two coins in a full day's hunt, does more for your patience then finding stuff all day long with maybe 1 or two good coins along the way? :icon_scratch:

Dave says you have the patience of a saint! :angel2:

Me too. Some days I go to a old site for a while, when I get tired of nothing happening, I leave it for another day, and go looking for someplace with more action.

I have gained respect for field hunters, I have a small 10 acre field I have permission for and the property used to have 2 homes on it according to the 1874 map. One was demolished in the late 60's due to tornado damage and the other was gone earlier in the 1900's. I am used to having many targets since I normally do parks, public lands and private homes. Yes you do need patience for fields. I have hunted in the field twice and have found a 1964 memorial cent along with many melted globs of lead. I assume these are remnants of the old plumbing from one of the houses. It must have been burned down. You also have to dig deeper targets in fields. I have found many targets at 18 inches down. Sure hope I can find some late 1800 and early 1900 coins. I always like to see what has been found in fields in other states

Good Luck & Happy Hunting

Fields are good to me, but oh the iron. Brought out 52 lbs. on a 4 hour hunt last Sunday. And they were smaller pieces. 2 lbs. here & 3 lbs. there. Gonna take my little red wagon out there the next time.

Oh, I know folks. It's all a matter of preference.
Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't. ;) LOL

One thing the fields have going for them is that they are usually only hunted by permission.
Which would cut down on the hunting pressure. They are just soooo big that the finds are scattered apart more.
Stands to reason that the "good" finds are a lil more slow in coming.

The biggest trouble, for me, is that it is soooo tiring even walking a few hours in a field. They won't become a
favorite for me but that's ok. It leaves more for those who do.

It's all good!

Those globs of lead in a field could pre-date the old home sites you were looking for. Many times that melted lead in a field would be a tell tale sign of a Civil War Union Encampment. I would work that field nice and slow. :headbang:

Oh my! The one I'm in has some incredible history! Both with the field and the surrounding area!

Thanks!
