I've seen them in surrounding towns but never here, this was late day light and I hope he comes back so I can get a good shot of such a beautiful creature of the Creator.

I saw a black squirrel in Iowa last week. I remember seeing many black squirrels at the Rock Island Arsenal on the Mississippi many years ago.

I went there many years ago. I barely remember anything about it.

Love squirrels, but unfortunately so do my cats. We do have Calif. Grey
squirrels up here, and while they are a invasive pest, they're here to stay.
Little buggars run the power lines, and occasionally step in the wrong
spot, which brings a very quick, but electrifying end to it's life. Usually
blows the transformer fuse too, meaning we go without power until
they come reset it..:BangHead:

Gotta be careful feeding squirrels though, 'cause soon you'll be getting this:

One thing I've learned by watching them trying to get to the feeder(and at times making it)is they rely on balance,it's something to see them in action, they will size up distance when they jump too. I still am not able to out smart a tree rat after 11 months.:BangHead:

Saw one yesterday --- down here we call those "Fox Squirrels" but don't ask me why.

I just wish I could see that solid black fox again and get a pic.

But -- If a black squirrel is called a "fox squirrel", what is a black fox called? A "squirrel fox?"

Maybe 8-10 years ago we had a white squirrel running around the timber next to our place. Don't know what eventually happened to him as after a few weeks he disappeared. That was at about the time a Peregrine Falcon moved into the timber :dontknow:
