What will they do when the Snows come :dontknow:

PennDOT is making use of their variable speed limit signs due to the weather conditions on the Interstate 81.

As of 3:15pm, Friday, the speed limits on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound between the interchanges at Interstate 80 in Luzerne County to Interstate 78 in Lebanon County have been reduced to 55 miles per hour.

This is the first time PennDOT is using the signs after being installed last month. When speed limits are reduced, a yellow light at the top and bottom of the VSL will be flashing to ensure motorists are aware of the change.

As the rain picked up midday Friday, the crashes began. Around 1:00pm, 3 crashes including one in Schuylkill County, at mile markers 104, 95, and 89.

Further south, conditions were not any better. The Pennsylvania State Police announced just after 3:00pm that the Interstate was being closed between mile markers 80 & 85 due to cleanup from the crash.

Friday - Rain, Possibly Heavy at Times, over 1 inch of rain expected - High in the Mid 60's, Low in the Upper 50's

Saturday - Rain Ending Early, Remaining Cloudy - High near 60, Low in the Mid 30's

Sunday - Clouds and Sun - High in the Mid 40's, Low in the Upper 20's

Monday - Clouds and Sun - High in the Lower 40's, Low in the Mid 20's

** Weather Outlook: There is a chance for snow showers in the early morning hours on Wednesday and Friday of next week

After moving here recently, I can honestly say that motorists around here don't care about speed limits. Everybody seems to be in a hurry and there are even a few who drive only for themselves and don't acknowledge others on the road. Pretty sad how kindness and being courteous are a rare find nowadays. 😥

Around here if you're doing five over the limit, you got people trying to drive in your trunk. Making a left at the light. Wait for three to run the yellow & two to blow the red before proceeding. Courtesy!?!? Wazzat!?!? Someone lets you into a lane? Take a photo! You just witnessed a miracle. Want to get in the next lane? Turn on your turn signal. Everyone will speed up to get past you leaving the lane clear. They'll pull out in front of you even though there isn't a car behind you for two lights! I truly think our drivers tests consists of turn on the key, honk the horn, adjust the mirror, fix makeup, ok you pass.

Count your blessings brother!

Everywhere, I believe it's the same people, wrecking over and over again. You see some cars, crumpled on all corners, with one door caved in, duct tape holding some pieces on, other body parts missing. Guaranteed, they don't have insurance, and it's likely their license has been suspended. They continue to make bad days for others. For them, it's just another day.

I normally Ignore the Interstate here.
We get fog so thick it's hard to see the Wipers outside your Windshield. there are plenty of back roads . though even they can be hard to navigate at times due to accidents and detours
