Hello All

Columbia is still a mystical region to many. And many treasure remain hidden in mountains of Columbia. In examining the found archeolocial site one must wonder what still lies undiscovered?

Tierradentro is a National archeological park in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Inza department Cauca Southern Columbia. The park is located 100 km away from the capital of the Department, Popayan.

The area is very well known for its pre columbian pit like tombs with spiral stair cases which were found in several excavations, and are located in many local archeological sites. some of them are:

Alto del Aguacate (Avocado Hill), Alto de San Andrés, Alto de Segovia, Alto del Duende and El Tablón.

The typical pit tomb (hypogeum) has an entry oriented towards the west, a spiral staircase and a main chamber, usually 5 to 8 meters below the surface, with several lesser chambers around, each one containing a corpse. The walls are painted with geometric, with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic patterns in red, black and white. Some statues and remains of pottery and fabrics can be seen scarcely due to many years of looting after the conquest. It was only in the late 20th century the hypogeum sites were constituted as protected areas.

The pre-Columbian culture that created this amazing hyogeum funeral complexes inhabited this area during the first millennium A.C. Tierradentro Archaeological park features hypogea dating from 6th to 9th centuries AD. The details in the sculptures and zoomorphic patterns are similar to the San Augustin culture. The site generates significant revenue to the local economy due to the high volume of tourists, both Colombian and foreigners. These sites form a part of ac UNESCO World heritage site. So no digging there.

However it make one wonder how many other sites are out there unknown?

Ah the wet season....When it rains it pours. Its stinking hot in my part of world and about 100% humidity like breathing water. The worst time of year on the island, ya feel like if your an ice cream?walk out into the sun and ya melting. Suddenly people with air conditioners are popular.:occasion14:
