I think we all got suckered in with it years ago. pre internet days. I remember hearing about it as young feller then few years later a movie was made.

Great story greet fire side yarn still being repeated as being true. Strange enough I just heard the yarn again last Wednesday from my brother inlaw. A few guys come around my place to shoot some pool and drink my beer and dribble crap.

I wonder if that newspaper report was of Benjamin Franklin's experiment.

Yes Franklin's was a Few Months Earlier On June 10, 1752
I think it is referred to in the First paragraph as made in a "More Easy Manner" & How to in the second paragraph.
