Well I made a two day hit here in Eastern Virginia since the weather got cold again. This is most likely the last field hunt because the crops are going in faster than I can swing my detector across the fields trying to stay ahead of the Green Deere. I hit two spots, one was a 1655 house-site and campsite for many troops from colonial days throught the Civil War. The other site was my 1801 site that gave up some wonderful goodies. I hope you enjoy the many relics from Virginia's past!

No idea what it is/was, but for some reason I'm drawn to the piece with the initials J.W.K. on them. I would be tickled to death to have a day like that. Very nice finds.

It is actually the intials of the son whose father built the 1801 house. Now, my only thought is some sort of silver money clip?? It was a great find and the landowner loves it because it is a direct link back to the original owners of the home. The current home owners have tours during the spring and summer months. We have created a virtual map of where all the relics have been found and we will have them on display during this time. They are going to hold a special day so the county historical society can come over for a visit/tour and me, my uncle, and good friend Bill will be on site to talk about them. Awesome stuff for the hobby!!

Congrats on the finds!!! I found the same ornament of the girl with wings about 2 years ago bottle digging on an old farm. Do you have any clue what it is? I think it's a hood ornament to an old tractor but I'm not sure.

When I was stationed at Ft. Gordon in Augusta, Ga back in 1981, we were taking a break from our field exercises and as I sit on a birm of soil, I noticed a huge load of chinese coins coming out of the hill. Very similar to your first photo. I am talking hundreds of coins. We were told not to touch them. I managed to take a few. They made it back to Massachusetts but now are since lost. It was a hoard for sure. They were green with tarnish. What a sight to see.

Wes, send me an email with the details on the tour. If I'm able to make it I'd love to see the history that y'all saved and take the tour.

Here's the one I found.

One thing is for sure, we have the same piece. My only guess is a radiator cap ornament, hood ornament, etc... I will say that we found a lot of Model T Ford bushings in this field so it could be something along those lines? Funny how our two pieces are identical. Thanks for sharing!

Nice variety of finds Wes that span a considerable period of time. Glad you were able to get in a little hunting time as things are shutting down pretty quickly now as you know.

Nice stuff Wes - love the militia button and the Chinese coin. Those coins have been popping up a lot lately in SE VA colonial sites.

I know this is an old thread but what you and Eagle101 have found are old Packard hood ornaments, I believe around 1940 or so.
