Awesome hunt! Found some cool stuff! Can somebody explain the 14K Italy mark on this bracelet? It rings in the 70-71 range on the Gold Bug Pro. Found it on an old late 1800's spanish light house. At one time it may have been gilded 14K.
Don.....

Hmm thats what I was thinking! Cause there are like some gold marks on some parts of it. If it were solid 14k then it must have shined like the day it was made. I know gold might get dirty if buried for quite some time but it would simply shine.

There is PLENTY of jewelry marked 14k Italy that is fake. I have found a few and a lot of my friends have found it in the water. ANY gold marked 14K Italy is very suspicious. Yours isn't gold, probably plated at one time and yes probably someone got suckered into buying it.

I know you didn't say it was gold, so you knew it was bogus also.

Yeah I know! Yes when I dug it out and saw those marks my heart beat got up but then again, if it where pure 14k gold then it must have shined like the day it was made! Though the bracelet looks pretty old to me. And it was well made too. It feels very solid. And the way it joins, I have never seen this style though.

My friend Kevin found a very heavy necklace in fresh water that was marked 14K Italy. We had a real good laugh over that one also. I wonder if they are sold on street corners to American tourists? It was solid and also quality brass!

The worst ones are ones marked 18K AND 750 Italy. I have yet to see a real one with both markings.

Neat finds congrats!

I have found a few marked 14 K that weren't. I drop the items that have no value into lemon juice for a while, it makes the gold parts shinny and clean.
